Madison County treasury department employees offered furloughs
Monday, May 18, 2009
EDWARDSVILLE -- Madison County Treasurer Fred Bathon said Monday he's ordered his employees to take a one-week furlough in order to meet a budget reduction that County Board Chairman Alan Dunstan has requested of all county departments.
Bathon said the employees will have the option of taking off the week of June 8-12 without pay, or taking off a total of 40 hours without pay during a five- or 10-week period.
"I've looked at my budget, and we've literally eliminated everything we could do without or postpone buying," Bathon said. "In doing that, I still have to lay off my entire staff for one week."
